A Thousand Step Program

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Lao-tzu, The Way of Lao-tzu
Chinese philosopher (604BC - 531 BC)

So too a journey of a single mile (all be it quite a fast one)
Jim Freeman, the way of the gamer
Average Gamer (1972 - Present)

The best place to begin is at the beginning...

An average mile time for “the average person” is around 9 to 11 Minutes (around 1500 to 1800 steps)

(Obviously this is a vague form of measurement so don’t freak out if you are some kind of Empiricist)

When I decided to take on this challenge it made sense to see where my start point was...

...Three years ago when I joined the gym, my mile time was 10 Minutes and change. (Excuse the Americanism, but I didn't take careful note of the seconds)

This time I managed a decent, but not earth-shattering, 6 Minutes and 3 Seconds (06:03:00)

That’s an improvement of 4 Minutes over 3 years...
(In my defence, I was not trying to improve my mile during that time.)

So I know where I am starting , where I am trying to go and how fast I want to get there...
...The rest is down to effort

Other News..

Today I signed the forms that were necessary to start formal coaching from next week .
I also signed the mandate for the bank account that will enable me to keep all the money that you donate in a safe place (with a teeny tiny amount of interest too).

The first donations were made on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th at the Sheffield Kotei*, where I put on a 4 minute challenge, designed to show the attendees at the Kotei just how short 4 minutes actually is. I would like to thank all of the guys that gave it a try, and to those that didn’t but donated anyway.

*Kotei is an annual event for the Legend of the Five Rings CCG , a game by AEG , one of the kind donators to my challenge…

…And while I am thanking people
Wizards of the Coast , the lovely people that make Magic the Gathering CCG and D&D have also pledged financial assistance for this challenge.  A big thank you to You…
